Vernon County Sheriff's Office Vehicle Graphics
NEVADA, MO.--- Before Sheriff Jason Mosher took office, the Vernon County Sheriff vehicles didn't have graphics.
"Some of the trucks we had were bought in 2008, some were bought last year, none of those vehicles were marked," states Sheriff Jason Mosher, Vernon County Sheriff's Office. "A lot of our Crown Vics had old graphics that were faded, couldn't see them very good, so they're being stripped down and new graphics are being put on those."
The sheriff says it's important so the community knows the deputies are out patrolling.
"It doesn't work to have community oriented policing to deter crime if they don't realize that was you that just drove by, so having graphics on will really help with that," says Sheriff Mosher.
Lieutenant John Randall drove an unmarked car last year. He says he notices a difference making traffic stops in a marked car.
"Actually, the people are more apt to realize you are a law enforcement officer and they will pull over for you a little sooner," states Lieutenant John Randall, Vernon County Sheriff's Office.
People like Dalton Smith who works at the local movie theater, do notice.
"Makes me feel safer because you can see them coming and know who they are when they show up," states Dalton Smith, Century 6 Employee.
The sheriff says it's proven that graphics on the police cars can prevent crime.
"When something goes bad, people can see there's someone we need to go to, there's someone who can help," says Sheriff Mosher.
The sheriff says they are still waiting for their transit van and 2 D.A.R.E. cars to get the new graphics put on.
