Carthage Committee Discusses Possible New Fire Substation
The fire chief says their department responds to 1,700 calls for service a year which can be a burden on one station. Adding another substation would put anyone in their jurisdiction within 5 miles of a fire station, thus lowering people's insurance rates.
"We can save time and service and a better quality of service to the citizens by having a second station in the southern part of town," says Chris Thompson, Carthage Fire Chief.
The committee will recommend their budget priorities which include this substation as well as improving the park system at tonight's council meeting. Final budget approval will come in June.
