MSSU Tuition Increase Approved

JOPLIN, MO.--- The Missouri Southern State University Board of Governors approved a 2.2% increase in tuition. Starting this fall, in-state students will pay $3.27 more per credit hour, and out of state students will pay $7.40 more.

The cost per credit hour will now be $173.20 for in-state tuition, and $346.40 for out of state. Administrators say the tuition hike is unavoidable due to the state of the U.S. economy.

"It's a very difficult decision because our students are number one to us and we do not want to infringe on their lives as much as we can. This is just a necessary evil, so to speak, that we had to do to keep up with inflation," said Rob Yust, Vice President of Business Affairs.

Administrators estimate the higher fees will add $350,000 to MSSU's revenue for the upcoming school year.
