JOPLIN -- The Joplin Greenhouse and Garden Center teamed up with Master Glades Environmental group to talk about backyard restoration to area homeowners Saturday. The goal of the seminar was to encourage residents to attract songbirds to the area. They say taking steps like planting native grass and plants while purchasing various types of bird feed will help attract our airborne friends to the area. Organizers say there are all kinds of birds that can be drawn in at any time of year.
"It is an improvement for your quality of life, and it is also supportive of nature," says Master Naturalist Val Frankoski. "Nature supports us in many ways we do not understand, so bringing the birds back is good for our immediate sensibility and also for the environment and habitat that we want to continue to sustain."
There will be another backyard restoration seminar next Saturday at the Joplin Greenhouse and Garden Center starting at 10AM.
