Sarcoxie High School Mock Car Crash

SARCOXIE, MO -- Emergency responders give Sarcoxie High School students a reality check before they head to prom this Saturday.

Paramedics, state highway troopers and firefighters held a mock car crash this afternoon.

Students watched intently as the crews worked to free four trapped teens from a three car pile-up.

Some were taken by surprise as one of the students was rolled into a hearse.

The mock wreck was held to show students the dangers of texting behind the wheel or driving drunk.

Students say the staged accident was eye-opening.

"I actually teared up a little bit and people were looking at me kind of funny but in all seriousness it's really scary. I've been in the end of it of almost getting in a wreck and it's not something you can't just play or joke around with," says student Katelyn Munley.

Munley hopes her classmates don't take the experience for granted and focus on safe driving.
