By: Gary Bandy
Updated: April 21, 2011

Rare fire rainbow taken at Idaho/Washington border.  This atmospheric phenomena occurs when sunlight refracts at 58 degrees off of cirrus clouds at approximately 20,000 feet.  The cirrus clouds must have just the right amount of ice crystals for the fire rainbow effect to happen.
