Updated: January 7, 2009
Joplin residents started paying more sales tax Monday. The new quarter cent sales tax was approved by a narrow margin of city voters back in November. The current sales tax is now 6.7%. The increase is expected to produce more than $1.5 million dollars in new revenues. That money will be used for the $20-million dollar renovation to the city`s parks and storm water drainage system. $9.3 million dollars will also be used to fund various local park projects.
