County officals plan to ask the state of Kansas for help in investigating an area mayor. Concerns from citizens raised questions about misuse of city personel by Baxter Springs mayor John Murry. At this point county prosecutor Jo Anna Derfelt is just gathering information to pass on to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. She, and several other city leaders, plan to ask the KBI for help in the matter. All local police and sheriffs departments have turned down the case sighting conflicts of interest. At this point allegations center around the use of city employees to work on various projects around his business in town as well as at his mothers residence--everything from hauling and laying gravel in the alley behind his Baxter Springs donut shop to fixing machines inside the store. Mayor Murry says the accusations have more to do with someones personal vendetta against him than with the charges at hand. He will be able to submit a letter to the KBI along with any requests by county officials for help on this investigation.
