New Jail Too Small...

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A new four-state jail is already experiencing growing pains. The Oklahoma state jail inspector says the 16-month old Delaware County jail is already too small. During a surprise visit last week, inspectors found too many prisoners and too few jailers. Officials with the state health department say the building can hold 61 prisoners and that just isn`t enough. Delaware County officials spent almost 4-million dollars on the jail and courthouse renovations. Delaware County Sheriff Lenden Woodruff says he`s been struggling with the budget since he took office two years ago. He says he has barely been able to keep the jail open.
