With rain still in our forecast, area farmers are having to deal with a very wet May. On average the month of May sees about four inches of rainfall.
So far this month,we`ve received over 13 inches of rain.
Mark Larson is a corn farmer in Jasper County, and the extra nine inches over the norm is causing his crops to diminish.
The average corn plant is normally waist high, but this year`s crops have not been able to grow because of the lack of sunlight and too much rain.
"Yeah it`s extremely frustrating. Granted in the farming profession,we do deal with the weather a lot of things we can`t control. Just when it gets this far out of normal, this is going to be one of the wetest May`s we`ve ever had,"said Larson.
It is also hard to fertilize the crops because it is almost instantly washed away.
