Police Standoff

A police standoff has officers working through the night. The Joplin Police and Jasper County Sherriff`s department responded to a man resisting arrest and barracading inside his home. The standoff happeend around 11pm Sunday evening when the Jasper County Sherriff`s Department tried to arrest 39 year old Homer Abney on felony weapons violations and possession of drugs with the intent to distribute. He resisted and barracaded himself inside the home and wasn`t coming out. The Joplin Police Department then responded with backup for the Jasper County Sherriff`s Department. The special response team then went in with their body armor and then fired tear gas into the home. Also a negotiator was positioned across the street with a spotlight shining on the home. Then around 4:15 Abney did come out of the home and was arrested. He is currently in the Jasper County jail. Abney is being held on 15,000 bond. No court date has be set. Reported By: Brad Douglas
