When you leave for vacation will your home be safe from burglars? The Joplin Police Department says it`s a question you need to ask yourself. Summer is the peak season for home break-ins,especially when you leave for vacation. Officials say if you plan to be gone it`s a good idea to have a friend house sit for you. Or ask a neighbors to keep an eye on your home. Also make arrangements to have your mail picked up daily. And make sure all your doors and windows are locked securely. "The majority of our residential burglaries take place during the day. In this day and age most people work, husband and wives. So during the day there`s no one at home. So you`ll have several blocks that way. You`ll drive through neighborhoods in this home and you`ll be that there`s no movement, because everyones out earning a living,"said Delmar Haase of the Joplin Police Department. According to the f-b-i, half of all burglary cases reported involve the suspect coming in through an unlocked door or window. Reported By: Brad Douglas
