Updated: January 7, 2009
Joplin city leaders name a new police chief. A press conference was held today to announce the recent appointment. After months of searching a new face is among Joplin`s finest. Kevin Lindsey was officially named as Joplin`s new police chief today. Lindsey is a Missouri native but comes to us from the town of Madison, Wisconsin. Lindsey was picked unanimously from 75 applicants by a panel of 15 community members. Just a few weeks ago the applicants were narrowed to four finalists. Including joplin`s own Jim Hounchel. 45-year old kevin lindsey is a 23-year veteran of law enforcement. City manager steve lewis says Lindsey was a standout for this position. He is not only a seasoned police officer but has considerable management experience. Lindsey says his goal is to enhance the community. He says joplin reminds him of home. "Its big enough to do things but small enough to know people when you go into the grocery store..when i came to town i just got one of those good feelings." Upon appointment as the chief of police, Lindsey will work closely with citizens and department members. Lindsey is taking over for Ed Dennis who resigned last March. Lindsey`s appointment will be effective as of August 12th. Until then Jim Hounschell will remain the interim police chief. Reported By: Courtney Cullor
