Campers Sent Home for Meningitis Precaution

Four State officials send a group of Girl Scout campers home early, after reports of meningitis surface. Officials with the Girl Scout Council of the Ozarks are sending home the girls currently camping at Camp Mintahama in Joplin as a precaution to the news. Officials say a 12-year old girl from Afton, Oklahoma was at the camp during the week of July 6th through 12th. She has since been tentatively diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. The Council, along with the Newton County Health Department has notified the families of girls who may have been in contact with the girl. Officials say the decision to close the camp early was a precaution to insure the safety of the campers and volunteers. Reported By: Robin Rogers
