Abduction Alerts

Updated: January 7, 2009
The recent spree of child abductions has made local law enforcement officials aware of security measures to keep you child safe. Officials with the Jasper County Sheriff`s Department say the best way to safeguard against child abduction is to always keep a watchful eye on your children. But if the unthinkable does happen, officials say it`s important to be prepared. Captain Tony Coleman of the Jasper County Sheriff`s Department said, "What we do is Iden-a-Kid type programs to where we obtain fingerprints, and provide them to the parents. Those type of programs. Then if the unfortunate should happen and a child does come up missing, we try to take advantage of all the national outlets that are available as far as getting the information we have." Networks like the Amber Alert system in Oklahoma and Texas have helped police reunite kids with their families. Jasper County has a similar system where police can enter a child`s information, like fingerprints. Reported By: Ryan Loyd
