Medical Scooters

"The big picture is independence for someone stuck in bed or their recliner.  They can't get to their kitchen or bathroom.  We want to give someone some freedom and let them be up for part of the day if we can."  That, according to Jeremy Ferguson, a rehabilitation technology supplier for Health Essentials.  He helps match patients with the best option to help them get up and around.

"Cane to walker to manual wheelchair.  Then scooters and power chairs, travel chairs.  There's really every option available," said Ferguson, adding not every scooter or chair is right for every situation.  Ferguson meets with customers in their home to learn about their daily environment and what choice might work for them.

"Lots of times a scooter may not work in the home where a power wheelchair will.  There's a different turning radius in the two options.  I go do an in home evaluation.  I will sit down with the client and take a couple of devices out."  A prescription from a doctor is required - as well as final approval once the equipment is chosen.  You can learn more about the process by calling Ferguson at Health Essentials.
