breaking news
There`s good news and bad news for people waiting to get their yearly flu shot. Joplin Health Department officials say getting the vaccine will be easier this season than in the past. Problems in the manufacturing process were the cause for shortages over the past few years, but now that the process has been improved, the price of the product has gone up. Due to that increase, the shot may not be offered at as many facilities this flu season. Registered Nurse, Laura Hurn says, "we may be seeing other agencies that just are not purchasing the vaccine." Hurn also says over the past few years ten doses cost the department around twenty-four dollars. Now the price for the same number is sixty-five dollars or more. A date to distribute the vaccinations has not yet been set.
