A four state city is upping employment and their budget. Joplin City Council has voted to create three new positions and will add over $730,000 to the budget to be spent on new staff positions. The city will add a public information officer, a police computer network technician, and a building inspector. City mayor, Richard Russell says the public information officer is a position the council has been wanting for some time. "A lot of communities have a public information officer and Joplin has not had one in the past, the council at the the retreat indicated that communications with the public are very impressed and we still think that," said Russell. The budget changes will also allow additional funds for paramedics and hazard materials workers. With the new positions the council has decided to table the proposed hiring of a downtown economic development specialist.
