Diamond Gang Problem

Updated: January 7, 2009
An area police department makes arrests after a recent string of gang activity in a Four-State town. Diamond police are investigating leads to apprehend all the suspects involved with the folk nation gang in Diamond. Police aren`t releasing much information about the suspects themselves because many of them are juveniles, but police say the Folk Nation gang in Diamond is a branch of the same gang in Joplin and Neosho. Diamond Police Officials made several arrests Wednesday in connection with recent vandalism and burglaries in the area. Diamond Police have already arrested two juveniles and one adult believed to be involved with the activity. Sgt. James Harrison said small crimes, theft, and assaults in diamond have been on the rise for the past four to six months. "Diamond`s a small town. Most people around here think there is no gang activity, there is no drug problem. We`ve had an increase in the amount of drug activity in town and an increase in the amount of juvenile problems," Harrison said. Police say a home in Diamond is where they believe the suspected gang members gather for meetings. Officials say drugs like marijauna and other drug paraphernalia have been found at the residence. In all, police believe there are 10 to 15 members in the Diamond Folk Nation gang. Reported by: Ryan Loyd
