Newton county drug offenders have a positive alternative. Presiding Judge Timothy Perigo of Newton County spoke to members of the Joplin Kiwanis Club Tuesday afternoon about the drug court program. Perigo says that only one person who has completed drug court has failed to earn graduation. The Newton County Adult Drug Court is a one year program involving testing and treatment for any non-violent criminal. As soon as the graduate completes the program, any charges filed against them are dismissed. -- judge perigo says that nearly half of the offenders who choose to take part in drug court, do not complete their requirements because of the challenging nature of the program.
