Back To School

Four state college students are heading back to campus. Today was the first day for Missouri Southern State College students to enroll for spring classes. After a six year break, Gina Shanks is going back to school. This time she`s playing both mom and student. "1997 was the last time i was here. I was a Psych major and I was a Junior and I`m just coming back I changed my major to Elementary Ed,"said Shanks. And getting back into the routine of college can be a bit of a challenge. "Scarey, I forgot everything, where everything is at. The buildings and I didn`t know where to get books and the sticker you need for your car. So i`ve had two kids and a family since then." One aspect of going back to college is having to wait in those long lines at the enrollment office. "Waiting in line is a little frustrating because its just a long drawn out process. You just want to hurry up and get going, but I think everyone has to do it,"said Katie Orear,MSSC Freshman. And with the recent tuition increase some students are questioning the costs. "I work as a southern ambassador and a lot of that`s a big question with a lots of students that are coiming in. To take tours and stuff with us. And they`re wanting to know why come here instead of someplace that`s might be cheaper,"said Mandy Witt,MSSC Ambassador. But for mom`s like Gina, they are just happy to be back to school getting their education. "I am a stay at home mom for four years and it`s just going to be nice to get out with the crowds again. Kinda have another life." Classes begin on Monday. If you would like to learn more about registration, you may log onto the college`s web site at www.mssc.edu Reported By: Brad Douglas
