School Cash Crunch

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
School districts across Missouri could soon be feeling a budget crunch due to a lack of funding in the show me state. Teachers and students at Joplin High School say they believe a budget cut would leave a hole in the quality of education. But they also say citizens of the community will support education and help fill the gap of a budget cut. Joplin R-8 Superintendent Dr. Jim Simpson says short-term budget fixes aren`t the answer. "We would like for our legislators to give us long term stability because they require us to educate students with long term stability. It`s hard to do if school funding fluctuates like a rollercoaster every year," he said Missouri Governor Bob Holden says legislators have until Feburary 15 to possibly get the money needed from tobacco bonds, which have not yet been sold.
