The threat of a war in Iraq is prompting Missouri health officials, and health agencies around the nation, to begin vaccinations.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services began its "Prevent Small Pox Vaccination" program today.
Health officials say the threat of bioterrorism is a high risk because of a possible war.
While there are no naturally occurring cases of small pox in the world right now, experts say it`s possible terrorists could release the disease.
"The federal government is looking at a lot of different agents that could be used as bioterrorism agents. Some have vaccines that are available to prepare for," said Tony Moehr, Jasper County Health Department Administrator.
Health department officials in Jasper County say vaccinations will be given to them later this month.
