A high ranking officer in the Jasper County Sheriff`s department is facing criminal charges. Captain Tony Coleman has served the citizens of Jasper County for 18 years. He is facing misdemeanor charges of stealing.
Captain Tony Coleman has been accused of taking money that had been collected from other law enforcement officers,to be given to the Salvation Army.
The money was collected during the Route 66 Music Festival last July. It was discovered missing shortly after. Captain Coleman has been accused of stealing less than 500 dollars a class a misdemeanor. Captain Coleman has served in law enforcement for Jasper county for 18 years. According to his attorney Bill Flyshaker, they will fight these charges.
"I think he`s just disapointed in the turn of events. We`re going to defend the case and i think once a judge or jury hears the facts of the situation. He`ll be found not guilty,"said Fleischaker. In a statement Jasper County Sheriff Bill Pierce said Coleman will be on administrative leave for an unknown period of time. Coleman`s attorney is aiming for a possible may trial date. He will be arraigned in court on March 27th.
