Miami, Oklahoma residents and community leaders discuss costly layoffs which are affecting the community. The Miami Area Chamber of Commerce held its semi-annual Eggs `N Issues event this morning in Miami. The hot topic: layoffs at area casinos which have affected over 65 blackjack dealers at the Quapaw and Grand Lake Casinos. The National Indian Gaming Commission shut down the operation of blackjack games after officials said the casinos were not compliant with their rules of play. Tribe members say they would like the state to step in. "To allow us to negotiate a compact with the state or to work with the state to develop a game that would be compliant, but we need their help," J.R. Mathews, who has three sons that work for Quapaw Casino, said. Tribe members say the layoffs have affected over 600 dealers state wide, and could cost the state $10 million in unemployment claims.
