Childhood Memories

Updated: January 7, 2009
Child abduction is traumatic for the family and friends, but especially for the children involved. Child psychologists say the way a person deals with trauma depends on their age. Young children, like the three abuducted yesterday who were all under the age of four may not have any long-term memories of the event. But it`s still important to monitor the children`s behavior. "You look for behavioral changes. If the child starts having sleep problems, or regressive behavior or a change in personality. They become either very withdrawn or a quiet more shy child becomes very aggressive. Those kinds of behavior changes would be an indicator that maybe their having trauma reactions,"said Sherry Buchanan, Psychologist. Buchanan says it`s best to not force children to talk about any trauma, instead just listen to their concerns. Reported By: Brad Douglas
