Updated: January 7, 2009
Several Joplin teachers may be out of work due to a state budget crunch. School administrators are dealing with state budget cuts and teacher layoffs. According to Joplin Superintendent Dr. Jim Simpson, over 20 teachers will loose their jobs due to state cutbacks. He also says the school district could see over a million dollars cut from their budget. Several programs may be eliminated and class sizes will increase. It`s a tightening of the budget that Joplin School Board President Bo Lee says no one wishes had to happen. Over a thousand teachers in the state of Missouri will lose their jobs as a results of the budget cuts. The final budget for the 2003-2004 school year will be completed by this summer.
