Kidwell in Court

A four state man involved in a decade old murder mystery asks for time off for good behavior. Donald Kidwell was charged last year in the 1991 disappearance of 18 year old Carol Sullens of Baxter Springs. Kidwell`s attorney asked for an early release for his client. Kidwell pleaded guilty in connection with Sullens disappearance from a Galena nightclub. Kidwell`s attorney stated his client`s good behavior while being held in the Cherokee County jail as reason for early release. Officials say Kidwell is the first trustee the jail has ever had. The declining health of Kidwell`s mother as well as the year he served prior to his sentencing was brought up in arguments. But as far as Sullens` family is concerned that`s not reason enough for his release. "Why does he deserve an early release? I don`t care that he`s helped people, why don`t he help us? Why don`t he give us something that`s very dear to us. He knows what`s dear. It`s called Carol Maureen Sullens, our daughter,"said Harold Sullens. Mr. Sullens says all he wants is to be able to place the remains of his daughter in a grave so he has somewhere to place flowers. But whether Kidwell comes clean with where Carol`s located. Mr. Sullens says he thinks Kidwell`s a menance to society. "I`ve got no use for Kidwell, society should have no use for Kidwell and if he`s out on the street know every minute where your daughter is, where your kids are,"said Sullens. It was an emotional day as both Carol`s parents took the stand to tell the judge why they thought Kidwell should not be released early. The judge denied the early release saying a plea agreement was made and needed to be honored. Reported By:Jennifer Grannan
