Fighting For A Cure

Imagine having to test your blood levels six times a day, just to stay alive. That`s what people with diabetes have to go through every day. When you first meet Elise Watson, you realize she`s had to grow up fairly quickly in her 11 years. Every day she battles juvenile diabetes, which isn`t an easy fight. "I have to poke my finger with needles, have to inject insulin through needles, have to put it in a set that connect to an insulin pump in my rear. Yeah, that`s pretty unpleasant,"said Elise Watson. She, along with 200 other children plan to visit Washington DC to talk to Congress, and ask for more money for diabetes research. "I wanna be healthy when I`m older. I wanna have children without coplications. And I just wanna be a healthy normal 11 year old kid." Elise has been suffering with diabetes since she was seven, and her mom says it`s dramatically changed their lives. "It affects everything we do as a family. I haven`t had a good night`s sleep in the last four years because I`m up most nights checking her blood sugar so she`s not too high or too low,"said Stephanie Watson. Elise plans on leaving Saturday for her trip to Washington. During her trip to Washington Elise plans on meeting Mary Tyler Moore who also battles juvenile diabetes.
