The Governor of the sunflower state makes a stop in southeast Kansas. Governor Kathleen Sebelius was at Pittsburg State University for a special event. Governor Sebelius wants to remind the residents of Kansas that even children who may be born under bad circumstances do have bright futures ahead. The Governor was the keynote speaker at the 2003 Elm Acres annual dinner. Elm acres was founded 48 years ago. The organization provides quality care to children who have been seperated from their birth families due to abuse, neglect, or similar circumstances. Sebelius says these kind of children need special attention and they are making progress in spite of adversity. She says the Pittsburg community has reached out with services, programs, and financial support to help these children. The Governor will tell you it`s organizations like Elm Acres that make Kansas children successful. The Governor says it`s important to recognize elm acres youth and family services for their efforts to help children in need. Sebelius says education is the key to the doorway of success for abused and neglected children. But with your help each has a bright future ahead. Reported By:Courtney Cullor
