Celebrate a Healthy Halloween

Halloween can last past Christmas - or at least it does if you're 11 year old Brett Boline. "I only eat maybe 2 pieces a day." And Registered Dietitian Heather Boline says that's fine. "Really there's nothing wrong with including candy and sweets as a limited part of an overall healthy diet." But many kids go overboard - gorging themselves on candy bars and other sweet treats. Said Boline, "If your child tends to overdo it on Halloween and eat until they get sick, then it's probably a good idea for the parents to go ahead and limit how much they get each day." Of course - eating too much candy isn't necessarily limited to little trick or treaters. Boline added, "If adults are tempted to eat a lot of candy, then they might want to wait until the very last minute to buy their own candy. That way it's out the door." And Boline adds, don't worry if you enjoy a few too many treats on the 31st. "If you're eating sensibly the rest of the year 45 one or two nights of overindulgence and candy isn't really going to impact your diet overall."
