Pierce City Demolition

Updated: January 7, 2009
One four-state community takes another step toward rebuilding after early may`s severe weather. Pierce City`s City Hall building was demolished today. The only buildings expected to remain in the downtown once the public demolition project is complete will be the former Lawrence County bank, the Thistle, which is next to it, and the neighboring general store. But Mayor Mark Peters says leaving all of those buildings standing could be difficult. The owners of a few buildings opted out of the public demolition. Peters says the demolition budget is on track, but the city is having to spend more than expected on highway debris removal. The Mayor also says demolition is actually ahead of schedule and may be complete sooner than the expected deadline of mid-August. Reported By: Janae Menz
