Missouri lawmakers are working to make communities safer after the may fourth tornadoes. Southwest Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt has announced the passage of the tornado shelters act. The bill will allow cities and counties to use federal community development block grant funds to build tornado shelters in manufactured housing communities. Previously, money from the grant would only fund construction of shelters in low income developments and apartment buildings. The tornado shelters act also includes funds to be used to build a warning siren to ensure adequate notice of a tornado.
