A Joplin man will be put to death after a Jasper County Judge upholds his death sentence. 47-year old Gary Black was sentenced to death in January of 2000 for the murder of 28-year old Jason Johnson. Black claims he was convicted due to errors his attorneys made at his trial and wanted a new trial. Yesterday, a Jasper County Judge upheld Black`s conviction and sentence, and denied his appeal for a new trial. Black was sentenced to die by lethal injection for stabbing Johnson at a Joplin intersection in 1998. Prosecutors say the crime was racially motivated and unprovoked. Reported By: Jennifer Haile
