Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius has issued a drought watch and warning for much of Southeast Kansas. The counties of Allen, Bourbon, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Crawford, Elk, Labette, Montgomery, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson are included. Officials at the Cherokee County extension office say Cherokee County as a whole is doing better than it has in past years. But the owner of a four state grainery says he forsees the drought to hit some areas hard and others not at all.
"I notice it from one extreme to the other. I believe you`ll see anywhere from total corn crop yields are lost up to 150 bushel yields as the rain`ve come throught I think they`ve been isolated so some places look real good and some places are totally burnt up,"said Chris Norris, Owner of Cash Grain. Officials say if rain doesn`t come soon. The drought could be problems for crops throughout the entire area.
