Its back to the ballot box for a local political party. The Jasper County Republican Central Committee must meet again to select a candidate for Sheriff. Last night, Greg Dagnan defeated Jerry Neil and Archie Dunn to represent the party in the September 30th special election. But Dagnan was chosen with a pularity of votes. Chairperson of the Republican Party Rita Hunter says in order to be certified the candidate must win with a majority of votes. Dagnan had 32 votes, Neil had 30 and Dunn had five. The republicans will meet again next Tuesday in Carthage to nominate their candidate. The winner will face Democrat J.D.Love in the Sheriff`s race. The special election was called after Sheriff Bill Pierce resigned July 16th. Reported By:Jim Jackson
