Cave-In Update

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Workers may not have been using safety equipment when a cave-in left two men trapped in a trench in Ottawa County. That`s prompting an investigation by federal officials. The cave-in happened yesterday in Commerce, Oklahoma while the men were working in a deep trench for earthworks construction of Neosho. Commerce Police Chief Bob Baine says the cave-in will be investigated because there was no shoring or safety equipment set up at the digging site. Gary Wilder was buried to his neck in the trench. He is reported to be in fair condition at an Oklahoma hospital. The second victim Dave Caudwell was buried to his waist. He was treated and released. Workers were replacing sewer lines as part of a city-wide upgrade when the trench collapsed. Reported By: Robin Rogers
