Pollution Concerns

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A four state landowner is upset about recent pollution in his creek. Brent Erwin is asking the Jasper County Commissioners to make tougher rules on polluters. According to Erwin four years ago the Hilton Dairies moved upsteam and released excessive volumes of waste into the creek. Erwin wants to have regulations in place to prevent them from coming back. "This is just my opinion and everybbody`s entitled to their own is that the commissioners are more interested in protecting the interest of the poultry industry and the monies produced than the health and welfare of the people of Jasper County,"said Erwin. "You would be creating a new buraccracy if DNR is doing what needs to be done, then we don`t want to create something else. If their not steep enough of course we`d like to look into that,"said Jim Honey, Jasper County Commissioner. Erwin says he would like to create a citizen`s group who are concerned about the problem.
