Starting School in the Heat

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Many local students are forced to beat the heat as they head back to school. With a statewide hot weather health advisory being issued today, administrators have to make sure staff and students are protected from the dangerous heat. Cecil Floyd Elementary Principal Stephen Jones says the staff is keeping a close eye on students to monitor signs of heat-related illness. But he says his staff isn`t having to take a lot of extra precautions. Principal Jones says each classroom at Cecil Floyd has a water fountain inside. He says all classrooms in the Joplin School District are equipped with air conditioning. Reported by Janae Menz
