Charges are filed against a Lieutenant with an area police department after he is arrested for suspicison of driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an injury accident. 35-year old John Zappa was arrested late last month in connection with a drunk driving accident in Galena, Kansas. Zappa is a Lieutenant with the Columbus Police Department. He has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as several other misdemeanor charges. Officers say Zappa was driving on a road north of Galena when he allegedly came close to striking three teenage girls with a vehicle. Authorities say Zappa then sideswiped a horse carrying a rider sending that person and another rider to the hospital. Officials say Zappa tested over the legal limit of .08 blood alcohol content when he was apprehended. A first hearing on the case is expected to take place later this week. Reported by Robin Rogers
