A local woman is accused of stealing almost eight-thousand dollars from a school organization. A former employee at an area school has been arrested in connection to missing money from the parent teacher organization at Riverton. In early June the Cherokee County Sheriff`s Department was contacted by the new Riverton PTO President regarding nearly eight-thousand dollars which was missing. tani Montee of rural Galena is the Riverton PTO treasurer. She was arressted this morning facing eight counts of felony theft as well as nine counts of misdemeanor theft. Montee is also a former employee of the riverton school district. The PTO money was designated to help the children in the riverton school district. The money, around 8 thousand dollars came from special fund raisers the PTO has held. Detectives with Cherokee County say Montee was using her position as treasurer in order to siphon the money. The Riverton schools USD 404 says they are pleased with the work the Cherokee County Sheriff`s Department has done. But the Superintendent does want to make it clear that the PTO and school district are two separate entities and no tax payer funds were involved. Reported By:Jennifer Grannan
