West Nile Birds in Jasper County

Two birds in the four state area have tested positive for west nile virus. A bird from both the Webb City area as well as the Carl Junction area were sent in to Missouri state laboratories for testing. Both those birds tested positive for the west nile virus. Officials at the Jasper County Health Department say if animals in the area have the virus mosquitos will be able to pass them on to humans. "We now have evidence that it is more wide spread in the county than we had documentation of previously. It`s always been our assumption that it was there, but we have documentation now that shows it,"said Tony Moehr, Jasper County Health Dept. Moehr says while the presence of west nile in Jasper County is something to be concerned with. The reality of catching a severe case of west nile is very slim. Reported By:Jennifer Grannan
