A pilot is forced to make an emergency landing after his plane runs out of fuel over the four-states.
Police say a small 1959 Piper airplane made an emergency landing early this morning. The plane was flown by 41-year old Carl Jones. Authorities say it left San Antonio, Texas with a full tank of fuel. Jones and his passenger, 41-year old Evelyn Jones, were on their way to the Chanute airport when officials say the pilot missed the airport. Authorities say Jones continued on to the Iola airport, but could not land there either. Jones apparently tried to locate the Chanute airport by GPS coordinates, but was unable to do so due to dense fog. The aircraft eventually ran out of fuel. Jones was able to land the plane safely in a field. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
