Columbus Veteran Assembly

Four state students took time to honor their local veterans. An assembly was held at the Columbus High School to recognize area veterans. Over 40 veterans were in attentance for the celebrations. It was also a chance for the veterans to catch up with their friends. Some also hope to recurit some to join the local American Legion. "Well, we`re trying to build our membership up. We got people over in iraq and all the boys and girls coming home. We`re trying to ger them to join the american legion,said Charlie McColm, Korean Veteran. "They need to be recognized. There`s the ones that laid their lives on the line. And if of course anyone with your all volunteer army. We were drafted. I had one child, I was 23 years old when i went in and i was the old men some were 18 and 19,"said James Cook, WWII Veteran. The High School Band payed tribute by playing songs from the different brances of the military. Reported By: Brad Douglas
