Joplin, MO- Some band aids and antiseptic are a good starting place. But you need to make sure you're prepared for any minor injury with a first aid kit.
Dr. Kyle Kennedy said, "If you have to rely on things at your house to get you through 24 hours, 48 hours following a severe storm, or an ice storm like we had not too long ago."
Kennedy added some items will be more important for certain patients - but there are basics everyone should have. "A topical antibiotic over the counter steroid cream for itching and hives, some basic over the counter medications like ibuprofen and acetaminophen, benadryl."
Also, plan to cover any specific needs. If you take prescription medication, keep a 2 - 3 day supply in the kit. And be sure the kit is protected. "An airtight and watertight container and something just common and over the counter. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate just something that protects it from insects and moisture."
