Officials warn not to dial 809 on your telephone because it may cost you thousands. Telephone officials are warning residents to beware of a telephone scam that is sweeping the nation. The way the scam works is you will receive a message on your answering asking you to call a number beginning with the area code 809. The number originates from the British Virgin Islands and if you call it, you will be billed over $2,000 per minute. Officials say if you receive the message, simply disregard it.
