Head Lice Problem

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
One area school is sending students home due to a lice problem. The Joplin R-8 School District has about five kids that have had to be treated. Head lice are small parasites, and are even smaller than a dime. Headlice.org has many microscopic pictures of lice. Lice hatch from eggs and feed on blood. and they only have a life cycle of 24 hours. Lice can be treated with a shampoo and the child can usually return to class after a day. "With the winter it seems to be a little bit worse. Because the kids are wearing their coats their hats sometimes they`ll just come in and throw em down,or they`ll share each others coats and hats,"said Carolyn Burgess, North Middle School Nurse.
