A highway traffic stop leads to the finding of a vehicle loaded with meth making materials. At 12:45 this morning, a Missouri Highway Patrol trooper stopped 26 year old John DeGraw of Joplin for speeding. Athorities say he was traveling 14 miles over the speed limit on U.S 71.
Inside the car they discovered a mobile meth lab. Officers found and seized a half ounce of finished meth and 12 ounces of meth oil. They also found numerous chemicals, glassware and hazardous waste products. It is estimated the lab operation had the capability of producing one pound of finished meth.
"It could have been very realistic. could have been hazardous chemicals released in the air that could have been harmful to the officers or another person that would have been involved with a traffic crash with em. These things are extremely dangerous," said Sgt. Kent Casey, Missouri Highway Patrol. DeGraw was arrested and is being held in the Newton County jail.
