Witnesses say both the hoaks sisters seemed respectful and somber in court yesterday. Birdie Jo and Becky Hoaks listened as Judge Bill Lyerla read the charges against them. They`re stiff charges, each facing five felonies and Birdie Jo facing a sixth. Birdie Jo, speaking on her own behalf, boldly addressed the court to ask for a reduction in bond and assured the judge that she and her sister would not be a flight risk. But in spite of her claim, the judge denied the request. Both women appeared to be disappointed with the ruling. In the meantime the judge has issued a gag order on all law enforcement officers, the Prosecuting Attorney`s office, and the Public Deffender`s chosen to represent the Hoaks sisters. A motions hearing is set for March second and a preliminary hearing is set for March 9th and 10th. Yesterday, KSN spoke with Galena Assembly of God Church Pastor Jim Jones who says he talks with the women everyday and genuinely believes their story. In the meantime, the sisters are ordered to stay in the Cherokee County jail.
