National Guard $$$

Updated: January 7, 2009
An effort is underway in the Missouri Statehouse to preserve several area National Guard Armories. As a cost saving measure the national guard plans to close the armories in Neosho, Salem and Pierce City. But under legislation co-sponsored by State Senator Gary Nodler of Joplin armories in the three communities would be saved. Nodler says these armories are important to the communities and he`s pleased a bill was developed that will keep them operating in some capacity. The city of Neosho is considering coverting the armory into a new police station and municipal courtroom. The Pierce City Armory was virtually destroyed in last May`s tornado. The facility is part of a rebuilding effort... Reported By: Jim Jackson
